Vouni Palace Hotel Kyrenia North Cyprus

This is a hotel review for Vouni Palace Hotel in Kyrenia, North Cyprus

“A little let down but lots of potential at the Vouni Palace Hotel.”

Normally I'd only ever really consider putting a review up on a site if I had a really great or really terrible time at a holiday hotel I'd stayed at, but this time round wasn't all that clear cut so I feel it's really important people get to hear both sides of the story for my stay at the Vouni Palace.

Kyrenia is a regular haunt for my family and I as we have relatives who live over there with work and live just inside of Kyrenia town, so we try and get out for holiday breaks on the back of visiting them. So I'd say I know the area pretty well and have had good exposure to a whole heap of the local hotels. This time, due to our the location, we booked in for a fortnight at the Vouni Palace Hotel for the first time.

To say it wasn't what we expected was an understatement as the whole hotel was far removed from the pictures and photos we'd previously seen before booking. Much of the interior décor was of a low to middling standard and our room, which was meant to have a sea view, didn't. In fact, the first room they offered us had a strong smell of smoke so we insisted on being moved to somewhere else. It would be unfair to say the rooms were terrible – I've seen worse – they had all the mod cons you'd want, but they just were not to the standard you'd have expected for the price paid to stay here.

The indoor pool looked great, but that's where it ended. It was freezing cold and we were told the thermostat was being replaced. Other guests were very unimpressed with not being able to use the indoor pool too, so you may have thought the hotel would have got their act together and sorted the pool that day. While all of this is an accurate representation of the hotel, I feel its only fair to point out that a lot of maintenance and refurb work seemed to be going on. The hotel could, and probably was a lovely place to stay, so you would hope the Vouni Palace was putting itself back into that market for the summer.

One of the silver linings to the trip (apart from seeing our family) was the service we received from Go North Cyprus holidays, who arranged literally everything for us. Although we didnt have the best stay, I cannot fault the service we had. A very pleasant lady called Mandy took our enquiry and within a few hours everything was taken care of, including airport transfers and car hire. If there's a positive from this trip, using Go North Cyprus as a booking agent would be it.

Liked — A* service from the booking agents
Disliked — Vouni Palace was a disappointment
