I decided to book my annual holiday until outside the proper holiday season this year since I'm on a bit of a shoestring. After some deliberation I eventually plumped for Kyrenia in Northern Cyprus on the recommendation of a work colleague, and booked through GoNorthCyprus.com. I must commend the team there for their patience since I did a lot of umm-ing and ahh-ing and had to make some last minute changes. I believe I spoke with Anthony and later Sue, both of whom were extremely helpful.

My eventual choice was again a victory of budget constraints. I would normally opt for more luxury accommodation but as I was travelling in the winter season (Jan '16) choosing a mid-range hotel like Sammy's meant I could extend the stay to three weeks.

As a result, I must admit I wasn't expecting much. Certainly I imagined the interior would be somewhat more dated than I was used to, but I was very surprised. The room I stayed in can't have been redecorated more than a few years ago I don't think and it was all spotlessly clean.

This is a standard I found repeated throughout the hotel, a sure sign that it is being run conscientiously. It wasn't until dinner on the first night that my monetary savings started to show, really. Even then, it was not so much a compromise of quality but variety, with only two dishes available- might be a problem if you're a fussy eater? I'm certainly not. If I were to visit again I would probably opt for bed and breakfast as I gather a three course meal at Sammy's is relatively inexpensive and I would've liked to get out and about more in the evenings.

I've no other criticisms of the place, frankly. I would come here again if money were a consideration for me. Oh, and the bar staff were extremely welcoming, you could do worse than to make friends with them!
