Manolya Hotel Kyrenia North Cyprus

This is a hotel review for Manolya Hotel in Kyrenia, North Cyprus

“Not bad but could improve - The Manolya Hotel”

I stayed at the Manolya Hotel in Cyprus in earlier this month. I arrived late in the evening, and so went directly to my room for some much needed sleep after the journey. Sadly this was not to be, as the walls in the Manolya are extremely thin and seem to carry sound a great distance. The result of this is that whenever anyone talks on your floor of the hotel you're able to hear it in your room. Obviously this is not a good thing when you're trying to sleep (especially on a business trip), so the following night I requested a room swap to an area of the hotel with fewer children (I like children, but they do make an awful lot of noise it has to be said).

The new room was admittedly quieter, but smelled strongly of cigarettes. It may be that, as a non-smoker, I was more sensitive to the scent of stale smoke than your average guest, but it's not something you really expect from a hotel in which the rooms are all labelled as “non-smoking”.

Aside from the issues I've mentioned, I felt the hotel itself was pretty good. While a little dated, the décor was tidy. I'm not necessarily suggesting that the hotel was unclean, but the linen had certainly seen better days. The water facilities such as the shower were of a good standard, but not the best I've ever used.

The food, for the price I paid, was also a little wanting. When you pay to eat in the hotel you're staying (particularly when that hotel is only 3* rated) you don't expect michelin star cooking. I would have been more than happy with some freshly cooked food and a bit of variety. In truth, the advertised buffet (both breakfast and dinner) was a little bland. I struggled through the same dishes every night of my 7-day stay. By the third night I decided to travel into town to eat locally and found some great places.

would normally have ventured into town to eat, but I was so disillusioned with the entire trip by that point that I couldn't muster up the energy to do so. The bottom line here is that you get what you pay for. Hopefully the Manolya will address these issues soon and realise it's full potential.

Liked — Good location and lots of local amenities
Disliked — hotel food was bland and repetitive
