“Idyllic retreat in the sun”

The Dome Hotel was all I could have wished for. My room overlooked the sea, and I was lulled to sleep by the sound of the waves breaking below me. A comfortable room, newly refurbished, a delicious buffet breakfast made all the better by helpful waiters who served me at my table because I find it difficult to walk without my stick - but the highlight was the seawater swimming pool, with its easy to manage steps, which meant that half my day was spent in the sea! It had long been my wish to visit the Dome, having read about it in Durrell's book, Bitter Lemons, and I plan to return very soon. An added highlight of my holiday were the two free opera concerts at Bellapais Abbey, with courtesy cars collecting me from the Dome and bringing me back to the hotel after dinner in the Abbey Bell Tower, a beautiful restaurant overlooking the Abbey cloisters. The Dome Hotel isn't glitzy or brash - it is a traditional, comfortable hotel with a very welcoming atmosphere and efficient staff, and I would not hesitate to recommend it to anyone seeking a relaxing, restful break.
