Colony Hotel Review - 4 of 98 Reviews

The Colony is a very popular hotel in Kyrenia (Girne), and we had enjoyed staying here last year. This year I brought my son and his two boys for a family holiday that didn't just revolve around a beach.

The service at the Colony is impeccable, the rooms lovely, the restaurant excellent, and the location in Kyrenia means everything is just outside your door. My grandsons had great fun exploring the harbour area, especially the castle, and eating large lunches followed by even larger ice creams despite having consumed what appeared to be most of the buffet at breakfast!

The major problem with the Colony is that it is almost too popular. Many weddings and parties are held here, and the loud music carries on into the early hours of the morning. Our room on the third floor was right underneath the terrace and on the second night it was an ceaseless noise of feet, chairs and disco music until 3am. Then, the guests go to bed, so you have banging doors to cope with, closely followed by those who have been in the casino. And finally, the noise of the staff rearranging the furniture again for the next day too!

Us grandparents requested to be moved because of the noise, and certainly our second room a floor down was better, but the Colony needs to sort out some sound proofing, otherwise guests are unlikely to book again. Luckily, the boys slept through it all.

The Colony is a lovely hotel, but we will not be returning because one of the staff said there are more and more functions happening, and that's the priority. It's a shame.
