Sofia Boutique Hotel Review - 2 of 9 Reviews

My partner and I weren't really sure what to expect when we booked the Sofia. We chose it because it seemed quite exclusive and and thought that it wouldn't be over-crowded with lary tourists. The word boutique also made it sound quite special. In reality, it wasn't special and we are now very wary of the word 'boutique' as we're pretty sure that it just means small.

Small is exactly what the hotel was. It was small and quaint as a hotel, which was actually quite nice because it was quiet and very relaxing. But, the rooms were small and this was not a positive. In fact, had I been much larger, I would've found it quiet difficult to be comfortable, this also goes for the beds. The decoration of the rooms was unique and could possibly be described as 'cosy' which, luckily didn't offend our tastes, however, you could imagine that for some it would feel like taking a step back in time.

Despite the draw backs, the rooms were comfortable enough and did have ample facilities such as a kettle and a fridge. We heard some guests complain of noise from their rooms, but ours was very quiet; we did have a very relaxing holiday.

The food in the hotel was excellent. We were given plenty of choice and it all tasted very fresh. It was nice to try some traditional cuisine as well as the more basic dishes.

The hotel has one huge plus point and that is its location. It is close by to Kyrenia's beautiful harbour and plenty of bars and restaurants. The historical buildings are also a great addition to the vista.

Overall, we had a thoroughly enjoyable holiday and were never stuck for things to do. Had we known what to expect from the hotel I don't think we would've been overly disappointed, it was just difficult to accept some things after having such a different picture in our minds.
